The 2019 Musical

The 2019 Musical

Stephanie Brody, Student Life

Last year, the school musical took us aboard the S. S. American while it glided through the Atlantic ocean en route to Europe during the 1930s. This year, it’s retreating back a decade to the 1920’s jazz age of Chicago. The show chronicles the lives and rivalry of two women on death row in an all-female Chicago jailhouse. The cast is lead by Sydney Cook as Roxie Hart, a gorgeous and self-centered murderess. Bella Depaola is Velma Kelly, a tough and sarcastic former vaudeville performer, Matthew Woodward is Billy Flynn, a suave yet sleazy lawyer, AJ Knox is Amos Hart, Roxie’s selfless bumbling husband, and Gabi Scarpelli is Matron “Mama” Morton, the sassy warden of the Cook County Jail. An ensemble member expressed, “Chicago is going to be an intense and exciting show to put on and a very fun show to see and I’m excited to work with all these amazing people to bring the story to life.” The cast begins rehearsals in January and performances will occur Thursday, March 7th through Saturday, March 9th, each night at 7 pm. Chicago will include Fosse-esque dances and vibrant showtunes all taking place during the roaring twenties.
