As some of you might know, Groundhog day is the day that signifies if we will have more winter weather or if spring is finally on its way. This is all determined by whether or not  the groundhog sees his shadow right away, or if he doesn’t see his shadow at all.

Of course, Groundhog day isn’t science, but many people like to believe that it has true merit and can actually predict the weather. During the 2019 Groundhog Day, Punxsutawney Phil could not find his shadow. It is much more likely for Phil to see his shadow than not. However, this Groundhog day was the 19th time that Phil could not find his shadow out of the 123 recorded groundhog day predictions.

According to the legend, this would mean that spring is coming early. But does the weather for the next few weeks align with this early spring prediction? For the next couple of weeks it will be warmer than sub-zero with snow, but it also won’t get to over 60 degrees. It will be around 40-50 degrees, with a high of 51 degrees, with light showers. There is also a prediction of light snow with lower temperatures.

The possibility of snow might argue that Phil was wrong, but because of the light showers and temperature you could argue he is right. There is a flooding and high humidity prediction for the next few weeks, which could allude to early spring showers. Does Punxsutawney Phil really have weather predicting powers? Or is it all a myth? Only time will tell if the groundhog’s predictions are correct.
