Spoiler Warning!
Society is not new to the idea of a love triangle. There is “Twilight” with Edward, Jacob, and Bella, “The Vampire Diaries” with Damon, Stefan, and Elena, and countless others that all follow this same plot. Two guys compete against each other to be the one the girl chooses to spend eternity with. And yet, we don’t seem to get tired of this plot; audiences continuously enjoy creating teams based on which guy we like the best. It seems we as humans like the competition. Fanbases are a common occurrence nowadays; the Yankees or the Mets, the Devils or the Rangers, Conrad or Jeremiah, they are all the same. The question is, how do you pick which team you’re on? Which Fisher brother do you think is better? Whether you decide based on looks, which one you think would be better for Belly, or which one you would rather date, we should all agree on something: Conrad is the only answer. Now, why am I qualified to make this decision? Because I once was team Jeremiah, until I was enlightened to the beauty and intricacy that is Conrad.
If you want to look at this with no bias and simple facts, we can do that. Let’s see, Conrad is attending Stanford Medical School, and Jeremiah…didn’t keep track of the credits he needed to graduate and has to complete yet another semester of college. Who is more responsible? Easy answer: Conrad. Some may say, “But Conrad and Belly broke up at her senior prom! That’s so horrible.” Yes, but let’s look at what Jeremiah did. Him and Belly got in an argument and decided to take a break, and what did he do? He cheated on her not once, but TWICE! There is an undeniable difference between being on a break and being broken up. Being on break implies an ongoing relationship; you are not no longer together, just taking some space from each other, which in turn means you still owe each other loyalty. The commitment you make to another person when you enter a relationship is linear; it does not end until the relationship ends. No doubt that breaking up with someone on the night of your senior prom isn’t pleasant, but Conrad proceeded to be stuck on her for 2 years! He was painfully in love with Belly and silently for 2 years while he watched his brother, Jeremiah, not only be with his ex-girlfriend but also treat her horribly. That’s commitment and a true sign of love if I have ever seen one.
On top of just the overall treatment of Belly by each of the brothers, no one can deny that Belly could not possibly get over Conrad, no matter how hard she tried, which is very telling of her true feelings. She dated Jeremiah, and yet every time she saw Conrad or heard his name, she seemed to put her life on pause. There was obviously a reason she was never able to get over him: because she silently knew she would always love him no matter what. Her relationship with Jeremiah was the equivalent of a middle school relationship when everyone freaks out because the two people dating hug. Meanwhile, Conrad and Belly had a real and committed relationship that was much more advanced in terms of maturity. Conrad is also significantly more mature compared to Jeremiah. He has made countless sacrifices for Belly and his family without even blinking an eye. Early on in the latest season, he lost his internship at a hospital because he got flustered when Steven, (Belly’s older brother,) got into a car accident. Instead of telling his family immediately and risking turning the attention onto him and his situation, he kept it to himself so that everyone could focus on Steven.
Overall, the question of whether Conrad or Jeremiah is the better brother is not a hard one to answer. Jeremiah not only cheated on Belly twice but also treats their relationship the way 5-year-olds play with their Barbies: like it’s fake and meaningless. In a sharp contrast, Conrad is wholly committed to Belly and is not afraid to show it. He sat and waited for her to come back for 2 years while he watched his brother be with her and treat her horribly. There will always be pros and cons to Conrad and Jeremiah alike, but in the end, the answer is clear: Conrad is the better Fisher brother, and the only one right for Belly.
