Summertime can be a yawn! With no late-night studying for math tests or scrambling to get ready for school before dawn, Hunterdon Central students have a lot of time on their hands. There are plenty of pastimes around Hunterdon County that can cure that summertime slump…
Fore! Mini golf is a great option for a sunny day around the county. Pine Creek Miniature Golf in Ringoes is a perfect place to enjoy the weather. The setting is more natural, with a variety of flowers and streams along its stone pathways. A cute, country-style course, this strategy-driven game is sure to encourage healthy competition. If you want something that will take a little shorter, play the 10-hole course. If you want something that will take a little longer, try your hand at the 18-hole course. Just to make sure to wear your sunscreen!
Do you like antiques? The eclectic Ye Olde Antique & Curiosity Shop is a perfect place to browse. Located at 139 Main Street in historic downtown Flemington, the five-star-shop has vintage clothes, dishes, toys, cameras, furniture, and jewelry. Even if you don’t find anything to your taste, the store acts as a time-capsule for different objects from the past. The shop also buys vintage items, so here’s an opportunity to clear some of the ancient stuff out from your attic!
If you want cute pictures with your friends and an altogether fun experience, try POP! located in the Bridgewater Commons right across from the Build-A-Bear shop. You pay a fee at the front counter to enter a series of uniquely themed rooms to have professional photographs taken, processed, and sent to you. Take a photo in front of a colorful array of flowers, a painted abstract background, or even in front of a makeshift laundromat! These kooky sets are an interactive museum waiting for you to explore.
Feeling outdoorsy? Get some sun at Deerpath Park. The gravel paths are perfect for running, walking with a friend, or biking. With an abundance of park tables, think about having a picnic! Perfect for spending time with loved ones, the park will also be holding a ‘Music Under the Stars’ concert from 7 pm to 9 pm on June 22nd. Lay out a blanket and enjoy the night sky with some live acoustics. And, if you’re looking to pinch pennies with a cost-effective activity, the park is absolutely free. Stay on the lookout for other events the park hosts throughout the summer as well!
Lastly, rain or shine, try roller skating or ice skating. Flemington offers an ice rink located in the Flemington Ice Arena. The information for free skate times vary during the week, but it is all available on their website. If you’re not into the cold, Frenchtown has the Frenchtown Roller Rink that is known for championing that 80’s nostalgia. Both locations also have DJs that blast trendy music…Perfect to roller skate around to!
As AP exams are coming to an end and more students are starting to think about summer, it might be hard to find a way to relax physically and mentally. If you’re ever bored on the weekend or a week during summer, these activities also range in price and duration. These options are a great, convenient way to make memories. They’re also a great alternative to staying at home. Why waste the day on your phone when you can walk your dog and enjoy the sun at Deer Path Park? What’s more fun than practicing your triple axel at Flemington Ice Arena? Or testing out different aesthetics in different POP! rooms? Summer goes by fast; make sure it doesn’t pass you by.
