What’s New?
Fast Lanes
Have you ever been headed to your class across campus and encountered the infamous group of people walking shoulder to shoulder, seemingly slower than anyone else, and not allowing you to get by? This is soon to be a thing of the past.
On June 19th of last year, the Hunterdon Central “Bored” of Education gave the go-ahead to start construction of the new “fast lanes” set to be added in over the summer, ready for the coming school year.
This idea was first proposed by students when the issue of kids showing up late consistently occurred. This proposal soon picked up traction and is now becoming a reality.
Over the summer, contracting crews have been removing the old rows of lockers and widening hallways as well as adding specific “lanes” to the halls, some designated for people in a hurry and others as general-use lanes.
Upcoming
The fast lanes aren’t the only improvement taking place this year! During the school year, it’s set that traffic lights will be installed in Hunterdon Central on walls. However, they won’t function for the normal purposes of stop, slow, and go, but they will show what direction different lanes are operating in.
A part of this project includes proximity sensors that will work in conjunction with the directional lights, allowing them to automatically adjust directions based on the amount of foot traffic in different lanes. The days of being held up by people walking slowly in front of you or taking up the whole hallway are over!
